Paralympic One Year to Go

It is now less than one year untule the Paralympic Games opens in London.

Wednesday 29 August 2012 will see the Paralympic torch arrive in the Stadium in London and the Paralympic Games will get under way. Over 11 days Paralympians will compete in 20 sports .

The ticket application process will open on Friday 9 September 2011. A full competition schedule is available at www.london2012.com

Over the next year we will help to promote opportunities for young disabled people in schools to take part in a variety of sports. Across the county there will be some high-profile opportunities to see and take part in Paralympic sports in coming weeks.

The Jog Derbyshire 5K run at Shipley Park on Sunday 4 September will feature opportunities to try blind football, seated volleyball and cricket. Meanwhile, Chesterfield FC and Derby County FC have agree to showcase the Parlympic Games through demonstrations at home games in the next few weeks.

We will shortly welcome John Bennett to the SSP team. John's role will be to further increase the quantity and enhance the quality of the opportunities available for young disabled people and those with Special Educational Needs within the City.

With the focus and inspiration of the Paralympic Games to come it promises to be the most amazing year of sport for disabled young people in Derby.
