After their secondary colleagues took to the Moorways track the previous week, Thursday 9 July saw primary school pupils from Derby take their turn for the track and field championships.

The temperatures may have lower than for the secondary school event, but the quality of athletics certainly was not. Pupils from 15 schools from all parts of Derby took part in 75m, 150m, 300m and 600m on the track and long jump, triple jump, shot and javelin in the field before the whole event finished in traditional style with the relay races.

‘This Girl Can’ say Derby pupils

Girls from schools across Derby proved that they definitely can when it comes to taking part in sports at our first ever ‘This Girl Can’ event on Wednesday 15 July.

The girls were given the chance to take part in cycling, volleyball and tennis during a 2 1/2 hour programme delivered by local sports clubs. Secondary Cricket Finals Day 2015

Eight teams met at Alvaston and Boulton on Tuesday 14 July for our second annual Secondary Schools’ Cricket Finals Day.

With finals played from Year 7 to Year 8 it was a busy but highly enjoyable day of cricket.

The morning saw Year 7 and Year 10 finals take place, both featuring Chellaston and John Port Schools. Honours were even at lunchtime with one win apiece – Chellaston taking the Year 7 title and John Port winning in Year 10.
