POBBLE literacy through sport winners!

On Monday the 13th March, 8 children from Derby city schools won a prize to be a player escort at the Derby U23 game vs. Everton.

The winners were chosen by the teachers at their schools for the exceptional writing they produced through the POBBLE literacy through sport programme. This programme encourages children to enjoy writing using sport as a hook. Children wrote a variety of pieces of work including team talks and newspaper articles.

Over 1100 Young People Take Part In Celebration of Dance

The biggest annual school dance event in Derbyshire returned last week.

Thursday 9th March saw the ‘Celebration of Dance’, organised by Derby City School Sports Partnership, returned to the Riverside Centre with a Disney theme.

Celebration of Dance is the flagship annual event for Derby City SSP with more than 1100 young dancers from over 50 Derby groups attending to perform throughout the day. Dancers ranged from nursery schools to University dancers, with dance styles from street dance to ballet, bhangra to contemporary.

Week commencing 06/03/17

Tuesday we had Yr 5/6 Cyclo Cross, 7 schools attended, Silverhill Primary, Village Primary, The royal school for the deaf, Oakwood Juniors, Alvaston Juniors, Dale Primary and Markeaton Primary. They all competed in 4 races, a boys race, girls race, mix race and a relay race for the whole team. Overall Silverhill Primary won, Markeaton Primary second and Dale third. Cycle Derby provided all the children with bikes to used throughout the afternoon.

Week commencing 27/02/17

Tuesday we had our first Cheerleading festival which ran really smoothly, we had someone from Derby county to take the cheerleading routine. We had 6 schools attend, Alvaston Juniors, Silverhill, Oakwood Juniors, Bemrose Primary, St Georges Primary and Bishop Lonsdale Primary. All of the schools came up with there own routine and performed them to the group. They also got to practice a routine from our team.
