Leaders take the chance to Step into Sport

Students from Derby City and South Derbyshire schools got the opportunity to meet Team GB London 2012 Volleyball Captain, Ben Pipes and Rio 2016 hopeful Katie Toft at a Leadership Conference at the new Derby Arena this week.


The Step Into Sport, Project Ability event, which focussed on Inclusive sport provision, saw students undertake a number of theory and practical activities covering teamwork, communication and the STEP principle of practical session delivery. They then finished with an action planning task to set aims and targets to achieve on their return to their respective schools.

Oakwood provide Slam Dunk finish again!

Oakwood Junior School retained their status as City Mini Basketball Champions, regaining the trophy they won 12 months prior. They will be joined at County Final by Cavendish Close Junior School who denied Oakwood a clean sweep of Gold, Silver and Bronze.


After two round robin group stages, three Oakwood teams and Cavendish Close progressed to the semi finals which saw Oakwood emerge victorious once again.

Cav Close Retain Sportshall Title

Cavendish Close Junior School retained the Year 5&6 Sportshall Athletics title yesterday after an exciting day of competition at the University of Derby.

With 600 athletes from 20 schools competing across three sessions during the day, schools’ athletics took over the Kedleston Road Sports Centre for the day. The Year 5 & 6 athletes from across Derby competed in a series of races and field events, including javelin, long jump, triple jump and speed bounce.

Markeaton Mark Gold Award with Rammie

Markeaton Primary School celebrated their School Games Mark Gold award this morning along with special guest Rammie.

Derby County’s mascot was on hand to present the school’s Sports Council with the award, which recognises the outstanding level of PE and School Sport taking place at the school.
