First Arena event is a huge success!

Derby City SSP was proud to hold it’s first ever event at the new Derby Arena on Thursday morning as 9 teams took part in our Inclusive Volleyball Festival.


Amongst the whir of bicycle wheels on the track above students from St Martin’s, St Giles’, Royal School for the Deaf, St Clare’s, Cottons Farm, Ash Croft, Reigate Park and Silverhill schools took part in a number of games aiming to work with as well as against their opponents. Trophies distributed as Cross Country season ends.

Derby City SSP held it’s final Primary Cross Country event of the season on Wednesday 21st October as the Relays took place at Moorways Stadium.


Again numbers were high with a packed field of races, particularly in the Yr 5/6 sections. An extremely tight finish saw Portway Junior nick the Y5/6 Girls race at the line whilst Cavendish Close Junior took the Boys title. In the Y3/4 races Mickleover Primary proved to be the quickest girls team and Brookfield Primary won the boys.

Oakwood take Girls’ Football Crown

There is a new name on the Derby City Primary Girls’ Mini Soccer Trophy after Portway Junior (who have been victorious in each of the last two years) were beaten 1-0 in the final by Oakwood Junior A Team.


Sixteen teams battled it out at Mackworth Sports Centre with half of those teams progressing to the knock out stages after all the group games had been completed.


The semi finals saw Walter Evans and Cavendish Close Junior exit the competition with the former defeating the latter in the play off to take the Bronze Award.
