Nominations Open for 2015 Derby Sports Awards

Nominations for the 2015 Derby Sports Awards are now open, with members of the public invited to nominate their local sporting heroes for the recognition they deserve.

The awards ceremony will take place at Derby Arena in October and you can nominate by visiting www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/nominate or by completing the nomination form at the bottom of this article. Nominations close on Friday 25 September.

Categories for the 2015 awards include:

Lifetime Achievement Award
Sportswoman of the Year
Sportsman of the Year
Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
Team of the Year
Manager/Coach of the Year […]

2015 – 2016 wall planners

Our 2015 – 2016 wall planners have now arrived and are being sent out to schools.

The planners show all of the planned School Games competitions, festivals, teachers’ workshops and networking opportunities.

Key dates include our annual conference on Thursday 5 November 2015 and the Celebration of Dance on Tuesday 8 March 2016.

Further details on every event will be uploaded to the events section of this website during the summer holiday to enable schools to make bookings for the new year.

Cav Close tear up the track and field

After their secondary colleagues took to the Moorways track the previous week, Thursday 9 July saw primary school pupils from Derby take their turn for the track and field championships.

The temperatures may have lower than for the secondary school event, but the quality of athletics certainly was not. Pupils from 15 schools from all parts of Derby took part in 75m, 150m, 300m and 600m on the track and long jump, triple jump, shot and javelin in the field before the whole event finished in traditional style with the relay races.

‘This Girl Can’ say Derby pupils

Girls from schools across Derby proved that they definitely can when it comes to taking part in sports at our first ever ‘This Girl Can’ event on Wednesday 15 July.

The girls were given the chance to take part in cycling, volleyball and tennis during a 2 1/2 hour programme delivered by local sports clubs. With many trying the sports either for the first time in their lives or for a long while the coaches from Darkstar Volleyball, Cycle Derby and the Derbyshire Tennis Centre were very impressed with both the energy and the quality on display […]
